FILM NOTES

Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in the summer of 1986 and became one of the defining blockbusters of the decade, directed by Tony Scott and produced by Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. Its aerial photography, shot using real Navy F-14 Tomcats and A-4 Skyhawks, set a new standard for action filmmaking and helped revive interest in military aviation as popular subject matter.

This cell, titled Pilot - Aerial Sequence, captures three consecutive frames from one of the film's signature flight sequences. Each frame presents two aircraft silhouettes against an open blue sky with wispy cloud cover, the compositions nearly identical across all three, preserving the rhythm and scale of the aerial choreography that made these sequences so visually distinctive.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
