FILM NOTES

Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and became one of the defining blockbusters of the decade, directed by Tony Scott and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson. Its portrayal of Naval aviator culture, combined with a propulsive soundtrack and kinetic photography, made it a cultural touchstone and one of the highest-grossing films of its year.

This three-frame cell, titled Pilot - Aerial Sequence, captures consecutive moments from one of the film's airborne sequences, with two aircraft visible against open sky and wispy cloud cover. The slight positional shift across the frames preserves the sense of motion inherent to the 35mm medium, offering a tangible fragment of the aerial photography that defined the film's visual identity.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
