Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and became one of the defining commercial films of the decade, grossing over 350 million dollars worldwide. Directed by Tony Scott, it brought a kinetic visual style to the military aviation genre and cemented the F-14 Tomcat as a cultural icon, while its soundtrack and imagery shaped popular culture well into the following years.

This cell, titled F-14 Tomcat - Aerial Sequence, captures a sustained aerial pass photographed against open sky, the aircraft moving through three successive positions — gear transitioning, banking, and pulling away — each frame silhouetted against bright cloud and blue. Shot on 35mm, it preserves the practical photography that gave the film its distinctive atmosphere.
