Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986 and became one of the defining cultural artifacts of the decade, directed by Tony Scott and produced in close collaboration with the United States Navy. The film revitalized the military action genre and launched Tom Cruise into the front rank of Hollywood stardom, while its soundtrack and visual language left a lasting imprint on popular cinema.

This cell, titled F-14 Tomcat - Aerial Sequence, captures three consecutive 35mm frames from the flight sequences featuring Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell, played by Tom Cruise, and Nick 'Goose' Bradshaw, played by Anthony Edwards. The frames move from wide aerial views of the F-14 Tomcat against open sky to a closer perspective of the aircraft's fuselage, offering a rare look at the practical photography that made the film's cockpit sequences so distinctive.
