Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986, directed by Tony Scott. A defining artifact of mid-decade American cinema, it arrived at the height of the Reagan era and reshaped the summer blockbuster template while cementing Tom Cruise as a major star. Its aerial photography, shot using real Navy F-14 Tomcats, set a new standard for action filmmaking and made the film a cultural touchstone that endured well beyond its initial release.

This cell, titled Pilot - Aerial Sequence, captures three near-continuous frames of aerial action photographed from inside or alongside an aircraft cockpit against open blue sky, with practice ordnance visible below. The frames feature Rick "Jester" Heatherly, portrayed by Michael Ironside, in full flight suit and helmet across all three exposures, preserving a sustained moment from one of the film's airborne sequences on 35mm.
