Top Gun was released by Paramount Pictures in May 1986, directed by Tony Scott. A defining artifact of its decade, the film merged military spectacle with pop-culture momentum, becoming one of the highest-grossing releases of that year and cementing a particular vision of American aviation culture that has endured across generations of viewers.
