Titanic was produced by Paramount Pictures and Twentieth Century Fox and released in December 1997. Directed by James Cameron, the film became a defining cultural event of its era, winning eleven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director. Its combination of large-scale historical recreation and intimate romantic storytelling made it the highest-grossing film of its time, and its influence on studio filmmaking through the late 1990s was considerable.
