FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in June 1982, directed by Steven Spielberg. The film became the highest-grossing release of its time and remains a defining work of American cinema, blending science fiction with an intimate story of childhood friendship and loss. Shot by Allen Daviau on 35mm, its visual language favored low angles and practical light, giving the film a grounded warmth that distinguished it from the spectacle-driven blockbusters of its era.

This cell, titled E.T. and Elliott, captures E.T. in close-up near water, likely drawn from the creek sequence. Three consecutive frames preserve the same quiet moment, with Elliott's presence suggested at the lower edge of the frame. It is an unusually intimate fragment, the alien face rendered in natural light, the composition reflecting the film's consistent choice to treat its central friendship with restraint and sincerity.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
