FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in June 1982, with Steven Spielberg directing at the height of his creative powers. The film became the highest-grossing release of its time, displacing Star Wars, and remains a defining work of American cinema — a story of childhood, loneliness, and connection told with remarkable restraint and sincerity. Shot by Allen Daviau on 35mm, its visual warmth became inseparable from its emotional register.

This cell, titled E.T. and Elliott, captures three consecutive frames from a close interior moment between the two central figures. The tight framing and warm practical lighting reflect the film's signature intimacy, and the near-identical composition across all three frames preserves the quiet rhythm of a scene built entirely on the bond between a boy and his unlikely friend.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
