FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in June 1982, directed by Steven Spielberg. The film became a defining cultural moment of its decade, blending science fiction with a deeply personal story of childhood, loneliness, and connection. Shot by cinematographer Allen Daviau, its visual language leaned on shadow and warm practical light to ground its fantastical elements in emotional realism. It remains one of the highest-grossing films in history and a cornerstone of American cinema.

This three-frame cell captures Elliott in a darkened environment, lit from below by a warm, unseen light source. His raised arm and the intensity of the moment suggest one of the film's more emotionally resonant sequences. Three consecutive frames from the same shot offer a rare sense of stillness and duration, preserving a quiet but charged fragment of Elliott's story.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
