Universal Pictures released E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in June 1982, with Steven Spielberg directing at the height of his commercial and creative powers. The film became the highest-grossing release of its time and remains a defining work of American cinema, capturing childhood wonder and loss with a sincerity that resonated across generations. Its 35mm photography, supervised by cinematographer Allen Daviau, gave the film a warm, intimate visual texture that distinguished it from the era's blockbuster competition.

This cell, titled Gertie and Michael, presents three consecutive frames from a shared interior moment between the two siblings. Warm practical light falls across their faces against a darkened background, the consecutive nature of the frames preserving a brief, unbroken instant of the scene exactly as it passed through the projector.
