FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in June 1982, directed by Steven Spielberg at the height of his commercial and artistic power. The film became the highest-grossing release of its time and remains a defining work of American cinema, blending suburban realism with science fiction in a way that felt genuinely new. Its influence on the decade's popular culture, from its John Williams score to its visual language, proved lasting and far-reaching.

This three-frame sequence, titled Trying To Flee The House, captures Elliott and E.T. in a low-angle interior composition, their figures rendered in warm silhouette against the golden ambient light of a household setting. The consecutive frames reveal the subtle progression of a single shot, with the third showing a slight darkening along the right edge that hints at a shadow shift or approaching cut. Together they preserve a quiet, tense moment from one of cinema's most emotionally charged narratives.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
