FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in June 1982, with Steven Spielberg directing at the height of his commercial and creative powers. The film became the highest-grossing release of its time and remains a defining work of American cinema, blending science fiction with an intimate story of childhood, loneliness, and connection. Its score by John Williams and its practical creature effects gave it an emotional weight that has kept it in the cultural conversation for decades.

This cell, titled E.T., captures the alien in his white hooded robe during an outdoor sequence set against trees and a backyard fence. The three frames run continuously, preserving a quiet moment that reflects the film's recurring theme of E.T. navigating a world not built for him, with Elliott somewhere nearby in that shared suburban landscape.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
