FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in June 1982, directed by Steven Spielberg. The film became the highest-grossing release of its time and remains a defining work of American cinema, blending suburban realism with science fiction to explore childhood, loneliness, and connection. Shot by Allen Daviau on 35mm, its visual warmth and practical effects set a standard for the decade.

This cell, titled Elliott, captures the young protagonist in a moment of upward wonder, mouth open, face illuminated by a bright overhead light source against warm interior tones. Three consecutive frames preserve the same held instant, offering a rare look at the stillness within a deeply felt scene — a quiet record of one of cinema's most recognizable young performances.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
