FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial in June 1982, directed by Steven Spielberg. The film became the highest-grossing release of its time and remains a landmark of American cinema, blending suburban family drama with science fiction in a way that defined the decade's popular imagination. Shot by cinematographer Allen Daviau, its visual language — practical light sources against deep shadow — became enormously influential.

This three-frame cell, titled Spaceship for E.T., captures a consecutive sequence from a night exterior scene, likely filmed on location near the family home. The frames share nearly identical composition, with warm practical lights illuminating foliage and casting backlit figures into silhouette — a characteristic visual moment from one of the film's most recognizable sequences.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
