Walt Disney Pictures released Treasure Planet in November 2002, a widescreen animated reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel transplanted into a science-fiction setting. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the film represented one of the studio's most ambitious traditional animation efforts of the era, blending hand-drawn characters with extensive CGI environments. Though a commercial disappointment upon release, it has since earned considerable appreciation among animation enthusiasts for its visual ambition and craft.
