Treasure Planet arrived in November 2002 from Walt Disney Animation Studios, representing one of the studio's most ambitious technical undertakings of the era. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker blended traditional hand-drawn character animation with extensive CGI environments, creating a science-fiction reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel. Though its theatrical run proved disappointing, the film has earned considerable reappraisal over the following decades for its visual invention and emotional sincerity.
This cell, confirmed as Treasure Planet Map, captures Jim Hawkins silhouetted against a dramatic burst of yellow-green energy light, with circular rune-like symbols radiating outward around him. Spanning three frames from what appears to be a single sustained shot, the sequence documents one of the film's most visually distinctive moments, preserving the interplay of practical animation and particle effects that defined this particular production's aesthetic ambitions.
