Treasure Planet arrived in November 2002 from Walt Disney Animation Studios, representing one of the studio's most ambitious reimaginings of classic literature. Adapting Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island into a retrofuturist space setting, the film blended traditional hand-drawn character animation with pioneering CGI environments. Though it struggled commercially upon release, it has since earned a devoted following for its visual inventiveness and emotional depth.
This cell, titled Treasure Planet Map, captures Jim Hawkins at the center of a pivotal moment as he channels a luminous green energy orb surrounded by particle effects and circular rune-like symbols. The three frames document a single escalating sequence, culminating in a brilliant starburst flare — a striking example of the film's fusion of hand-drawn and digital artistry preserved on 35mm.
