FILM NOTES

Treasure Planet arrived in November 2002 from Walt Disney Feature Animation, representing one of the studio's most ambitious productions of the era. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker adapted Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel into a bold science-fiction reimagining, blending traditional hand-drawn animation with extensive CGI. Though it struggled commercially upon release, the film has earned considerable reappraisal for its visual invention and emotional depth, standing today as a distinctive artifact of Disney's final years of traditional animation before the studio's shift away from the medium.

This cell captures a low-angle view looking up along the mast and rigging of the RLS Legacy, the great solar galleon central to the story. The ship's crow's nest lantern is visible against a luminous, cloud-filled sky, with the solar sails partially framing the composition. Sequential frames show slight positional variation, evidence of the scene's continuity. As a piece of hand-drawn production art, it preserves the craftsmanship behind one of the film's most visually striking design achievements.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
