Treasure Planet arrived in November 2002 from Walt Disney Animation Studios, representing one of the studio's most ambitious creative gambles of the era — a science fiction reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel set across an interstellar seafaring universe. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the film blended traditional hand-drawn character animation with extensive CGI environments. Though it underperformed at the box office, it has since earned a devoted following for its visual invention and emotional sincerity.
