FILM NOTES

Treasure Planet arrived in November 2002 from Walt Disney Feature Animation, representing one of the studio's most ambitious productions of the era. A bold reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel transplanted into a science-fiction setting, the film blended traditional hand-drawn character animation with pioneering CGI environments. Though it performed modestly at the box office, it has since earned genuine appreciation for its visual invention and emotional sincerity, standing as a distinctive artifact of Disney's final years of traditional animation before the studio shifted its focus entirely toward computer-generated features.

This three-frame cell captures Jim Hawkins viewed from an elevated angle, the distinctive honeycomb-patterned structure of the RLS Legacy visible behind him. Across the sequence, subtle shifts in Jim's pose trace the fluid progression of hand-drawn animation, each drawing incrementally advancing the movement. The rigging elements framing the composition reinforce the nautical-meets-cosmic atmosphere central to the film's identity, making this a quietly evocative piece from a production that rewarded careful visual craftsmanship throughout.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
