FILM NOTES

Treasure Planet was released by Walt Disney Feature Animation in November 2002, representing one of the studio's most ambitious technical undertakings of the era. The film blended traditional hand-drawn character animation with extensive CGI environments, a combination that pushed the boundaries of Disney's proprietary CAPS system. Though it underperformed theatrically, it has since earned a devoted following for its visual invention and its bold reimagining of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel in a retro-futurist space setting.

This cell captures The Montressor Spaceport, presented across three successive frames showing an aerial view of the Treasure Planet surface, with its distinctive domed structure rising from a rocky debris field beneath a star-filled blue sky. The repeated composition across the trio offers a rare look at how the film's background painters and CGI artists constructed the alien landscape's sense of scale and desolation.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
