Treasure Planet arrived in November 2002 from Walt Disney Feature Animation, representing one of the studio's most ambitious technical undertakings of the era. Directors Ron Clements and John Musker fused traditional hand-drawn character animation with extensive CGI environments to realize their long-gestating adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel. Released during a transitional period for Disney animation, the film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature and has since developed a devoted following that recognizes its visual ambition and emotional sincerity.
