FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released The Fast and the Furious in June 2001, directed by Rob Cohen and produced on a modest budget that belied its cultural impact. Drawing from a magazine article about street racing subcultures, the film launched one of Hollywood's most enduring franchises and established 35mm street-level action photography as a signature aesthetic of early 2000s studio filmmaking.

This cell, titled Dominic Toretto, captures Vin Diesel in close portrait against a near-black background, the frame rotated on the light panel to reveal the full geometry of the composition. Three sequential or adjacent frames show Dom's face and upper shoulders, with slight exposure variation across the strip, offering a quiet, almost sculptural look at the character who became the franchise's defining presence.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
