FILM NOTES

Universal Pictures released The Fast and the Furious in June 2001, arriving at a moment when street racing culture was crossing into mainstream American consciousness. Directed by Rob Cohen and produced on a modest budget, the film became a surprise box office phenomenon and launched one of cinema's most enduring franchises. Its influence on action filmmaking, car culture, and ensemble storytelling proved far-reaching and lasting.

This cell, titled Dominic Toretto, captures Vin Diesel in close profile against a near-black background across three consecutive 35mm frames. The sequence shows subtle variations in expression and light, with the third frame carrying a visible lens flare that gives it a distinctive quality. Together the frames offer an intimate, almost sculptural study of the character who became the franchise's defining presence.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
