The Garbage Pail Kids Movie was released in 1987 by Atlantic Releasing Corporation, adapted from the controversial Topps trading card series that had become a genuine cultural flashpoint among children and a source of outrage for parents. Directed by Rod Amateau, the film arrived at the height of the cards' popularity and has since become a singular artifact of late-1980s outsider cinema, occupying a strange, enduring place in cult film history.
