Atlantic Releasing Corporation brought The Garbage Pail Kids Movie to theaters in August 1987, adapting the notoriously irreverent Topps trading card series into a live-action feature. Directed by Rod Auerbach, the film arrived at the height of the cards' cultural controversy and became a singular artifact of late-1980s outsider cinema, drawing both outrage and cult devotion that has only deepened with time.
