Troma Entertainment released The Garbage Pail Kids Movie in August 1987, adapting the wildly controversial Topps trading card series that had scandalized parents and delighted children throughout the mid-1980s. Directed by Rod Aronson, the film arrived at the height of the cards' cultural moment, translating their grotesque humor into a live-action format that proved deeply divisive.
