The Garbage Pail Kids Movie was released in 1987 by Atlantic Releasing Corporation, adapted from the wildly popular Topps trading card series that had scandalized parents and delighted children throughout the mid-1980s. Directed by Rod Amateau, the film arrived at the height of the cards' cultural moment, translating their gross-out humor into live-action puppet effects. It remains a singular artifact of late Reagan-era children's media, occupying an uneasy space between toy merchandising and genuine transgression.
