FILM NOTES

The Garbage Pail Kids Movie was released in August 1987 by Atlantic Releasing Corporation, adapted from the wildly controversial Topps trading card series that had scandalized parents and delighted children throughout the mid-1980s. Directed by Rod Amateau, the film arrived at the height of the cards' cultural notoriety and remains a singular artifact of that era's appetite for gross-out humor and outsider merchandising. Its practical creature effects and uncompromising tone have earned it a devoted cult following decades removed from its troubled theatrical run.

This cell, titled Foul Phil, captures a blue-lit exchange between Foul Phil and Greaser Greg on what appears to be a stage floor set, shot from a low angle across three continuous frames. The circular background element visible in frames two and three anchors the staging. Foul Phil was performed by Kevin Thompson and Debbie Lee Carrington, with Greaser Greg brought to life by Phil Fondacaro, making this a notable piece of the film's practical performance history.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
