Atlantic Releasing Corporation brought The Garbage Pail Kids Movie to theaters in August 1987, adapting the wildly popular and controversial Topps trading card series into a live-action feature. Directed by Rod Amateau, the film arrived at the height of the cards' cultural notoriety and remains a singular artifact of late-1980s outsider cinema, occupying an unusual space between children's entertainment and transgressive comedy.
