Atlantic Releasing Corporation brought The Garbage Pail Kids Movie to theaters in August 1987, adapting the wildly popular Topps trading card series that had scandalized parents and delighted children throughout the mid-1980s. Directed by Rod Amateau, the film remains a singular artifact of late Reagan-era pop culture excess, blending practical creature effects with the deliberately gross-out sensibility of the cards themselves. Its brief theatrical run and subsequent cult following make original 35mm material genuinely scarce.
