The Garbage Pail Kids Movie was released in August 1987 by Atlantic Releasing Corporation, adapted from the wildly controversial Topps trading card series that had scandalized parents and delighted children throughout the mid-1980s. The film arrived at the height of the cards' cultural moment, translating their gross-out humor into live-action form with elaborate puppet work. It was quickly pulled from many theaters and earned a reputation as one of the era's most unusual cult artifacts, making original 35mm material genuinely scarce.
