Atlantic Releasing Corporation brought The Garbage Pail Kids Movie to theaters in August 1987, adapting the wildly popular Topps trading card series that had scandalized parents and delighted children throughout the mid-decade. Directed by Rod Amateau, the production leaned into its low-budget sensibility, becoming a cultural artifact of late-eighties gross-out humor and the era's appetite for transgressive children's media. Its notoriety has only deepened with time.
