The Garbage Pail Kids Movie was released in 1987 by Atlantic Releasing Corporation, adapted from the wildly popular Topps trading card series that had scandalized parents and delighted children throughout the mid-1980s. The film arrived at the peak of the cards' cultural moment, translating their gross-out humor into live-action puppetry. It was poorly received critically but has since earned a devoted cult following as an artifact of late-Reagan-era bad taste done with genuine commitment.

This cell, titled Garbage Pail Kids, captures three sequential frames from the State of Ugliness jail sequence, showing the Kids confined in labeled cages marked TOO SKINNY, TOO FAT, and TOO GROSS. The slight camera movement visible in the third frame gives the strip a sense of arrested motion, preserving one of the film's more memorable set pieces across a single encapsulated piece.
