Miramax released Kill Bill: Volume 1 in October 2003, marking Quentin Tarantino's return to directing after a six-year absence following Jackie Brown. A love letter to martial arts cinema, spaghetti westerns, and exploitation film, it became one of the defining American releases of the decade and remains a touchstone of genre filmmaking.
