Miramax released Kill Bill: Volume 1 in October 2003, the first installment of Quentin Tarantino's two-part revenge epic. A love letter to martial arts cinema, spaghetti westerns, and Japanese anime, the film marked Tarantino's return to directing after a six-year absence and became a defining work of early 2000s American cinema. Uma Thurman's performance anchored a film that rewrote expectations for action filmmaking in Hollywood.
