FILM NOTES

Toei Animation released Saint Seiya: Legend of Crimson Youth in July 1988 as the third theatrical feature spun from Masami Kurumada's manga, arriving during the franchise's peak popularity in Japan. Running alongside the television series, the film gave animators room to expand the visual scale of Cosmo battles beyond weekly broadcast constraints, and the theatrical photography reflects that ambition in its color depth and aura rendering.

This cell captures Dragon Shiryū at the moment of full Cosmo release, his armored form framed against a deep blue field with golden flame spreading outward from his figure. The sequence held across three consecutive frames indicates a sustained energy climax rather than a transitional beat, making this a representative example of how the film's theatrical production treated its most charged dramatic moments.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
