FILM NOTES

Toei Animation released Saint Seiya: Legend of Crimson Youth in July 1988 as the third theatrical entry in the Saint Seiya franchise, capitalizing on the television series at the height of its popularity across Japan and later Latin America and Europe. Directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi, the film introduced Toei's signature mythological spectacle to cinema screens, blending Greek cosmology with tournament-style action in a compressed, visually ambitious format that distinguished it from its weekly television counterpart.

This three-frame sequence captures Cygnus Hyoga in a moment of suspended crisis, his long blonde hair loose and his white Saint cloth catching the surrounding golden energy as he falls through a deep blue void. The progression across frames traces the arc of the moment, each image slightly shifting his orientation while the luminous flames intensify around him, preserving the kinetic drama of the scene in still form.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
