FILM NOTES

Toei Animation released Saint Seiya: Legend of Crimson Youth in July 1988 as the third theatrical entry in the Saint Seiya franchise, capitalizing on the television series at the height of its popularity in Japan. Directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi, the film pits the Bronze Saints against the god Apollo and his Corona Saints, delivering a condensed, visually ambitious production that remains a touchstone of late-1980s anime theatrical filmmaking.

This cell captures Cygnus Hyōga in the midst of a brutal impact sequence, his white cloth and blue armor fragmenting as he is driven against a rocky stone column under a deep blue sky. The three-frame progression documents the full arc of the collision, with debris and fabric caught mid-motion — a kinetic record of one of the film's more physically punishing moments for the character.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
