Toei Animation released Saint Seiya: Legend of Crimson Youth in July 1988 as the third theatrical film in the Saint Seiya franchise, capitalizing on the television series at the height of its popularity across Japan and later throughout Latin America and Europe. The film introduced Abel, the God of the Sun, and pushed the animation quality beyond the weekly series, making its theatrical cells among the most visually distinctive of the late Showa era.

This cell captures Pegasus Seiya in close-up, his face illuminated by a burst of golden energy against a deep crimson field. The three-frame sequence shows the animation progressing through what appears to be a transformation or power surge, with ribbons of light framing his expression at its most determined.
