FILM NOTES

Toei Animation released Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris in July 1987 as the first theatrical feature spun from Masami Kurumada's enormously popular manga and television series. Arriving during the height of the Bronze Saints' cultural dominance in Japan, the film brought the franchise's mythological action to cinema screens and established a template for the annual Toei summer anime film event that would define the studio's output for years to come.

This three-frame sequence carries the confirmed title Pegasus Seiya, yet the cell itself presents a close-up of a dark-haired female character in evident distress, mouth open and eyes wide, with foliage filling the background. The near-identical successive frames capture a tight animation progression, preserving the subtle hand-drawn movement that gives the moment its emotional weight.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
