FILM NOTES

Toei Animation released Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris in Japan in January 1987, the first theatrical feature spun from Masami Kurumada's enormously popular manga and television series. Arriving at the height of the franchise's cultural dominance, the film brought the Bronze Saints to the big screen with production values that distinguished it from the weekly broadcast, making it a landmark moment for the property and for the broader wave of anime theatrical releases that defined the decade.

This cell captures Saori Kido in a sustained close-up, her purple hair and upward gaze rendered across three near-identical frames that suggest a held dramatic moment in the animation. The repeated framing reflects a deliberate storytelling choice, drawing the viewer into her expression before the scene moves forward.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
