FILM NOTES

Saint Seiya: Evil Goddess Eris was released in Japan in July 1987 as the first theatrical feature spun off from Masami Kurumada's enormously popular manga and Toei Animation's concurrent television series. Arriving at the height of the Saint Seiya phenomenon, the film brought the Bronze Saints to the big screen for a self-contained story involving a celestial threat, drawing substantial audiences and establishing a template for the franchise's subsequent theatrical run.

This cell captures Saori Kido in close-up, her purple hair filling the frame against a matching purple background. The sequence of three near-identical frames suggests a held or slowly animated moment, the kind of deliberate stillness Toei's animators used to emphasize emotional weight. Saori's large, carefully rendered eyes anchor the composition, making this a quietly expressive piece from a landmark year in the franchise's history.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
