FILM NOTES

TriStar Pictures released Labyrinth in the summer of 1986, a collaboration between director Jim Henson and producer George Lucas that brought together puppetry, practical effects, and David Bowie's original score into a singular fantasy vision. Though its theatrical run was modest, the film found its true audience through home video and has since become one of the defining cult works of its decade, representing the peak of Henson's ambition as a feature filmmaker.

This cell captures three sequential frames from the animated labyrinth graphic, the geometric blue-line maze rendered against a black field that anchors the film's title sequence. The repeating pattern across all three frames suggests a looping or transitional animation, making this a rare glimpse at the film's graphic design work rather than its more celebrated puppet photography.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
