Labyrinth was released in 1986 by TriStar Pictures, produced by George Lucas and directed by Jim Henson. A blend of puppetry, practical effects, and live action, the film drew on Henson's Muppet legacy while pushing into darker fantasy territory. Though its theatrical run was modest, the film built a devoted following over subsequent decades and is now regarded as a defining artifact of mid-1980s fantasy filmmaking.
