Clerks arrived in 1994 as a landmark of American independent cinema, produced by Miramax on a now-legendary budget of roughly twenty-seven thousand dollars. Director Kevin Smith shot the film in black and white at the actual New Jersey convenience store where he worked, and its raw, dialogue-driven style helped define a generation of low-budget filmmaking. The film earned the Prix de la Jeunesse at Cannes and remains a touchstone of 1990s independent culture.
This cell, titled Quick Stop Customer, captures a brief but recognizable moment inside the Quick Stop, with Egg Customer and Egg Man visible in the frame alongside the egg cartons that define the scene. Walt Flanagan, a longtime Smith collaborator, appears in both roles across these three consecutive frames, a small piece of trivia that rewards attentive collectors of this film.
