FILM NOTES

Clerks was written and directed by Kevin Smith and released in 1994 through Miramax Films after its celebrated debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Shot on a budget of roughly twenty-seven thousand dollars, the film became a defining work of American independent cinema, capturing a generation's ambivalence through a single day behind a convenience store counter.

This cell, titled Quick Stop Groceries, presents three frames drawn from an exterior shot of the iconic New Jersey storefront, each capturing nearly identical framing from an elevated angle with a partial vehicle visible in the foreground. The sequence reflects Smith's deliberate, unhurried visual language and the real-world location that anchors the entire film.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
