FILM NOTES

Shrek was released by DreamWorks Animation in May 2001 and arrived as a genuine turning point for computer-animated feature films. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, it drew on the irreverent spirit of William Steig's source material to produce a fairy-tale satire that connected with both children and adults. Its commercial and critical success helped establish DreamWorks Animation as a serious rival to Pixar and reshaped expectations for the genre throughout the decade that followed.

This cell captures Lord Farquaad across three consecutive frames, all drawn from the same shot within his castle interior. He appears in his signature red and gold costume and red cap, seated in what reads as his throne room. The tight repetition of framing across the three images gives a clear sense of the original camera setup and preserves a sustained look at one of the film's most recognizable figures.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
