FILM NOTES

DreamWorks Animation released Shrek in May 2001, marking a turning point for computer-animated feature films and for the studio itself. Directed by Andrew Adamson and Vicky Jenson, the film earned the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and demonstrated that CGI storytelling could carry genuine wit and emotional weight alongside its technical ambition. Its irreverent humor and fractured fairy-tale structure made it a defining work of early 2000s popular cinema.

This three-frame cell captures the Lord Farquaad Interrogates Gingy sequence, one of the film's most memorable comic set pieces. Lord Farquaad looms over the Gingerbread Man, who is restrained on a table with a small tag or sign visible nearby. The framing holds nearly constant across all three frames, preserving the tense, darkly comedic stillness of the scene in a compact and coherent strip.

This original motion picture film element has been examined and authenticated by Crown Grading in partnership with National Film Vault, and encapsulated for archival preservation.
